Located in Banjarmasin, South Kalimantan, the Museum Wasaka—short for “Waja Sampai Ka Puting,” meaning “unyielding to the end”—is a tribute to South Kalimantan’s resistance against colonialism. Situated in a traditional Banjarese house along the Martapura River, the museum offers a glimpse into the bravery and resilience of the Banjar people.
The architecture itself is a cultural artifact, reflecting the design of Rumah Bubungan Tinggi, the traditional house of the Banjar. Inside, the museum contains weapons, documents, clothing, and relics from the struggle for independence, particularly during the early 20th century against the Dutch.
Surrounded by the tranquil ambiance of riverside Banjarmasin, the museum provides not just a history lesson but also an emotional connection to those who fought for Indonesia’s freedom. It is a place of reflection, education, and inspiration for younger generations.
The museum also serves as a venue for cultural preservation and public education, ensuring that the spirit of resistance and unity continues to inspire.
