Sriwijaya Botanical Garden

Sriwijaya Botanical Garden is one of the botanical gardens which is the priority of South Sumatra regional development which has been initiated since 2013. The establishment of the Sriwijaya Botanical Garden as an ex-situ conservation area is in accordance with the Governor of South Sumatra Decree No.553 / KPTS / BALITBANGDA / 2011 August 2, 2011 an area of ​​± 100 ha was set which administratively entered the Bakung Village area, North Indralaya District, Ogan Ilir Regency, South Sumatra Province. South Sumatra Province is known to have extensive wetlands (peat) covering a portion of its territory. This wet land has a unique character that is with very high soil moisture, even tends to be flooded. Such conditions allow the existence of endemic plant species that have been able to adapt to extreme conditions and stress. High plant diversity and the presence of people in the area that have long used plants, one of which is medicinal plants. Based on this, the theme of the Sriwijaya Botanical Garden was established as a conservation area for wetland plants and medicinal plants.
