The Southeast Minahasa region is part of the Wallacea region that is very unique and has an abundant diversity of flora and fauna with high endemicity. One type of typical ecosystem in the Wallacea region is Pamah forest, which is one type of lowland forest area with an altitude of 0 – 1,000 masl. Therefore, in the Southeast Minahasa region botanical gardens were created with the theme of Pamah Plants in the Wallacea Region.
The Megawati Soekarnoputri Botanical Garden is an ex-mining area of PT NMR (Newmont Minahasa Raya). As a former mining area, environmental problems often arise such as pollution and a decrease in environmental quality. The construction of this botanical garden initiated the development of a rehabilitation area into a botanical garden that has many benefits such as conservation, recreation, education and environmental services. One of the criteria for plants that are widely developed in this botanical garden are phytoremediation plants. Phytoremidiation is one technology that uses plants to remove pollutants from contaminated soil and water.
The Megawati Soekarnoputri Botanical Garden is located in Ratatotok Satu Village, Kec. Ratatotok, Kab. Southeast Minahasa (Partners). The location of the Botanical Gardens is divided by a village road 4-6 m wide. This road is a route for community activities towards agricultural, plantation and community mining areas in hilly areas.
