The West Kalimantan Provincial Museum was initiated in 1974 by the Regional Office of the Ministry of Education and Culture of West Kalimantan through the West Kalimantan Museum Rehabilitation and Expansion Project. Its function was inaugurated on October 4, 1983 by the Director General of Culture of the Ministry of Education and Culture, since then the Museum of West Kalimantan Province was opened to the public.
This museum stores among them the Geographic / Geological collection in the form of maps and types of rocks; collection of biology, archeology, history, numismatics, and cremology in the form of jars, plates, bowls, spoons, etc. originating from China, Vietnam, Japan, Europe, and local ceramics, Singkawang. In addition to displaying collections in the Permanent Exhibition Room I, the Provincial Museum of West Kalimantan also displays collections of replicas and miniatures in the plaza of foreign trade ship anchors.
The activities of the Museum include exhibitions, guidance to visitors, writing, conservation / collection preparation, surveys, procurement of collections, lectures, gatherings, socialization, discussions, research, painting competitions, quizzes, etc.
