Asian–African Conference Museum

This museum is an Asian African Conference memorabilia. This museum has a very close relationship with Gedung Merdeka. Overall Gedung Merdeka has two main buildings, the first is called Gedung Merdeka as the main congregation venue, while the one next to Gedung Merdeka is the Museum of the Asian-African Conference as a place for Asian-African Conference memorabilia. The background of the construction of this museum is the desire of the leaders of nations in Asia and Africa to know about Gedung Merdeka and its surroundings where the Asian-African Conference takes place. This made the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, Prof. Dr. Mochtar Kusumaatmadja, S.H., LL.M has the idea to build a museum. The idea was conveyed at a committee meeting of the Commemoration of the 25th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference (1980) which was attended by the Director General of Culture Prof. Dr. Haryati Soebadio as a representative of the Ministry of Education and Culture. Then the museum was inaugurated on April 24, 1980 to coincide with the 25th anniversary of the Asian-African Conference.
