Museum BI occupies the City BI building previously used by De Javasche Bank, a building that has a high historical value that is threatened with damage if it is not utilized and preserved. The government has designated the building as a cultural heritage building. Apart from historical buildings, BI also has historical objects and documents that need to be treated and processed to provide information that is very useful for the community.
Based on the desire to be able to provide knowledge to the public regarding the role of BI in the course of the nation’s history, including providing an understanding of the background and impact of BI policies taken from time to time, the BI Board of Governors has decided to build the Bank Indonesia Museum by utilizing the building City BI that needs to be preserved. The preservation of the City BI building is in line with the policies of the Jakarta Capital Special Region which has declared the City area as the development area of ​​the old city of Jakarta. In fact, BI is expected to be a pioneer of the restoration / revitalization of historic buildings in the City area.
