Botanical Gardens as conservation areas for ex situ plants have functions, namely conservation, research, education, tourism and environmental services. Some Botanical Gardens managed by LIPI have not been able to conserve all the plants in Indonesia. So that the development of the Regional Botanical Gardens (KRD) is a solution to these limitations. One of the Regional Botanical Gardens located in the Urban area is Kendari Botanical Gardens. With the theme of the Ultra Basic Plant Conservation Area, Kendari Botanical Garden is one of the few Urban Botanical Gardens that are prioritized by the Ministry of PUPR.
Located in Nanga-nanga Village, Anduonohu Village, Poasia District, Kendari City, with a distance of about 30 minutes from the city center. The Kendari Botanical Garden was built on a 96 hectare Special Purpose Forest Zone (KHDTK) land and is located in the southern part of the Equator line.
Its presence in the former sand and rock mining and illegal logging makes Kendari Botanical Gardens have a high conservation and environmental services function. Since the establishment of the Kendari Botanical Gardens, mining and illegal logging have been reduced. With the presence of the Kendari Botanical Gardens, the condition of the land in the form of Ultra Basic rocks and damaged due to illegal mining and logging activities can slowly be restored
