Job Summary The Research Analyst will be embedded within a vibrant and interactive group of faculty and students conducting collaborative research at the O'Neill School. This position is ideal for a candidate with a recent bachelor's degree seeking full-time pre-doctoral experience before applying for a PhD program.
Department Specific Responsibilities
- Assists with projects in health economics, health services research and policy at the intersection of youth substance use disorder and justice system involvement.
- Supporting health economics, health services, and policy-related research projects conducted by investigators in the research group.
- Uses statistical programming skills (R, Stata; SQL knowledge is also a plus. At least 1 of these required ahead, plus willingness and aptitude to learn other programming skills) to create data extracts from a variety of data bases, including administrative data, large-scale survey databases.
- Under guidance, conducting of literature reviews, application of statistical techniques to data extracts, generating of manuscripts as well as the presentation of results and practice in incorporating feedback.
- Engages in team meetings as well as in individual work, and use strategies that enable replication of research work.
General Responsibilities
- Performs moderately complex experiments while following research techniques and procedures.
- Develops procedures and protocols in collaboration with leadership.
- Prepares research reports or analyses for projects.
- Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed.
- May provide guidance and support to junior-level staff in laboratory operations.
Qualifications Combinations of related education and experience may be considered. Education beyond the minimum required may be substituted for work experience. Work experience beyond the minimum required may be substituted for education.
EDUCATION
Required - Bachelor's degree in related field
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required - Some related work experience
Preferred - Prior experience with healthcare claims data

- Strong organizational skills and keen attention to detail
Working Conditions / Demands The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. The person in this role must be able to perform the essential functions with or without an accommodation.
Additional Information This position is grant funded with expected annual renewals. Renewals are contingent on the availability of grant funds.
The term of employment is for 1 year with renewal for a 2nd year possible pending availability of funding.
The position is available currently, although the start date is flexible.
