Lotus Seattle Corp in Seattle, Washington is looking for an enthusiastic full time news anchor/reporter to join our newsroom. You will work closely with the Program Director, editors, reporters and other anchors to gather facts, broadcast news reports, interview guests, and cover breaking stories when necessary. You will cover local, state, national, and international events, and also stay well-informed on breaking news developments. 

Objectives of this role:

  • Conceptualize, pitch, and develop news segments 
  • Choose the most important, appropriate, and interesting news to broadcast based on areas of popular interest and viewer demographics 
  • Collaborate with newsroom staff to gather and record news content 
  • Cover breaking news events as they occur, including natural disasters, fires, and crimes 
  • Stay up to date on news developments to ensure the community is well-informed on current events

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Deliver live, scripted, prerecorded, and breaking news reports, whether in the studio or in the field
  • Research news and current events on the local, state, national, and international levels 
  • Interview guests and other members of the community involved in stories 
  • Introduce news correspondents and other journalists reporting live on the scene, and ask them relevant questions
  • Write and revise scripts
  • Comply with journalism ethics and standards, and ensure a professional appearance, manner, and use of language throughout broadcasts

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related field preferred. All candidates must have a minimum of 5 years experience in a radio or television newsroom.
  • 5 + years in major market as a news anchor or broadcast reporter.
  • Proven media personality with active social media presence.
  • General knowledge of local, national, and international affairs 
  • Passion for breaking news and current events
  • Ability to improvise on air when necessary
  • Ability to work under pressure with strict deadlines
  • Ethical and professional research, writing, and reporting skills
  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills
  • Team player who works well both collaboratively and independently

Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:

  • Office environment, some repetitive motion required. May require some travel to station events, valid drivers’ license is required with safe driving record.

Compensation:

  • $80K-95k, based upon experience
