Description:

NON-EXEMPT. Operates heavy construction and earth moving equipment such as excavators, articulating dump trucks, heavy loaders, bulldozers, and large industrial tractors with pan or scrapper attachments and shears. Equipment is used to excavate, load or move dirt, gravel or other materials.

Duties

· Operate on and off-road vehicles and equipment including bulldozers, excavators, backhoes, trench diggers, scrapers, rotary broom, tandem water and dump truck, bobtail truck, sweeper, flat bed truck, rubber tire roller, forklift, skid steer and steel wheel roller.

· Operate various equipment for general site preparation, landscaping, and related assignments.

· Ensure proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies.

· Promote continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices.

· Demonstrate adaptability and resourcefulness in the safe and efficient operation of vehicles and equipment for a variety of assigned purposes including towing, backing, and transport of other vehicles and equipment; hauling sand, aggregate, and other road building material; street paving; pumping and draining water; maintenance of rights-of-way and unpaved roads and parking surfaces.

· Maintain a daily work log.

· Check equipment daily to maintain efficient and safe operational status including inspection and testing of tire conditions and air pressure, brakes, mechanical and engine fluids, water, brake lights, head lights and such other systems and equipment as required.

· Operate vehicles and equipment under adverse weather conditions, and works on a schedule other than the normal work hours of 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

· Schedule work to be performed and monitor progress.

· Responsible for the implementation of safety and security policies, procedures and instructions for field/project operations.

· Perform other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

· Ability to work in extreme temperature and humidity of an equatorial environment.

· Ability to sit and/or stand for extended periods of time.

· Ability to work around low level radioactive materials.

· Ability to perform repetitive movements of the fingers, hands, wrists, and arms.

· Ability to participate in physically demanding work while wearing personnel protective equipment including respiratory protection.

· Medically qualified to wear a respirator, able to lift 50 lbs., and able to climb ladders without assistance.

· High school diploma or GED. Total of three (3) years general construction experience including the operation of various types of heavy construction earth moving equipment.

· Certification from a vocational trades training facility or completed apprenticeship through a recognized union program highly suggested.

· Previous experience working on large soil projects is preferred.

· Knowledge of light and heavy equipment and tools operation and maintenance.

· Knowledge of basic vehicle inspection and maintenance.

· Must have considerable skill and ability in the operation of heavy equipment and tools and a general knowledge of construction and vehicle safety.

· Ability to read, understand, follow and enforce safety procedures.

· Must be able to commit to a specific project tour and duration.

· Must possess a valid Commercial Operators License.

· Communication – ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports, operating instructions and correspondence. Ability to communicate clearly and succinctly on a basic and technical level.

· Skills – ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical solutions.

· Reasoning – ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
