Hansen Agri-PLACEMENT is searching for a Working Farm Manager who will be very much hands-on in crops and cow/calf production operations and will help oversee day-to-day operations for a North Dakota producer. Really prefer 5+ years row crop, forage, and cow/calf production and who will help be responsible for personnel, equipment, and will also assist with the purchase of fertilizers, chemicals, and other inputs. General Management Opportunity for the right individual once owner retires in near future. Owner wants to start slowing down but doesn't want to sell the operation. QUALIFICATIONS:
Experience working for Absentee Owner is a plus
Position will eventually lead to General Management Role when Owner steps back in near future
Ideally 5 years as Working Farm Manager of Row Crop, Forage Production and Cow/Calf Operations
Supervisory experience required
Position will require a hands-on working manager
Prefer equipment and farm maintenance experience
Solid production management experience required
Help with equipment operation and directing of planting, chemical/fertilizer application, harvesting, record keeping, etc.
Inspection of equipment to ensure proper function
Inspect fields to determine maturity dates of crops or to estimate potential crop damage
Assist in the purchases of machinery, equipment, and supplies
Solid cow/calf ranch background
Pasture management
Excellent animal health skills
Practical experience with herd management, nutrition, equipment and property management
Enforce safety regulations and interpret policies
Make decisions, solve problems, analyze information, and evaluate results
Organizing, planning, and prioritizing work
Monitoring and controlling resources and management of material resources
Appraise crop rotation, herbicide, pesticide, and fertilizer
Ensure all documentation is securely entered into the appropriate management information and electronic file systems
Partner with internal and external resources to ensure that all services and projects are timely delivered and completed effectively
Prioritize and delegate projects and oversee ongoing progress
Strong communications, team building, integrity, work ethic, multi-tasking, and ability to think outside the box
JOB DESCRIPTION:
- Help hire, train, and supervise workers engaged in farming activities such as: planting, cultivating, harvesting, and storing of crops
- Continually inspect equipment condition, perform daily maintenance on its components, perform regular cleaning inside and outside of the equipment, prepare it for its intended use, communicate and coordinate on preventive fluid maintenance and other mechanical repairs needed, effectively and safely operate, thoughtfully and proactively clean and store
- Perform select equipment maintenance and repairs as time and resources permit
- Analyze soil to determine types and quantities of fertilizer and other soil amendments required for maximum crop production (in conjunction with consultant).
- Harvest and store crops in a manner that helps meet cattle and production goals
- Keep environmental records on farming activities, precipitation, etc.
- Oversee planting through harvests
- Coordinate with Farm Team on specific farming activities
- Perform Weekly Meetings with workers
Ranching/Cow-Calf:
Business management/budgeting experience highly preferred. Manager will be responsible for the commercial cow herd. Manager will have direct husbandry duties and leading other production employees. Needs to be self-motivated and able to motivate others as ranch is progressive. Practical experience with herd management, nutrition, equipment and property maintenance and management are required.
Responsibilities include; Health - Vaccination Protocols - Doctoring/Diagnosing - Breeding - A.I. and Natural Service - Calving - Proper Tagging. Commercial Herd - Maintain Cattle Records, calving, matings, culling etc. Maintain full accounting for each class of cattle. Nutrition - Mineral program - Take monthly forage samples - Improvements - Maintain corrals, sheds, fences - Maintain trucks, equipment - Build/implement new improvements - Cattle Movement - Move/keep cattle where they are supposed to be - Range Health - Manage for excellent uptrending range health - Annual monitoring, photo points etc. - Keep grazing chart record for each pasture - Financial - Help draft and manage annual operating budget. - Stay within budget - Labor Management - Lead/direct (non-office) employees. - Manage part time, seasonal, & day help. - Manage with a TEAM approach, creating a positive environment. - Meet with Owner to Review Progress on Goals, Actuals vs Budget etc. - Innovate Be progressive minded with a willingness to adopt improved methods of beef production.
