Your New Role - Chief Operating Officer, Oregon Lottery!

The Chief Operating Officer (COO/Assistant Director of Operations) leads the vision, strategy, and roadmap for the gaming operations functions. You will lead senior leaders driving cross-functional operations and the revenue engine of a $17B business for Oregon and report to the Deputy Director in the Director's office. The COO plays a critical role in the refinement, design, and integration of organization-wide, cross-team systems and processes set to deliver alignment and effective operationalization of the strategy. You ensure optimum performance of gaming operations by leveraging your background in delivering continuous improvement programs and initiatives.

This is a hybrid position, and you will need to live within a reasonable commuting distance from the Salem, OR headquarters to meet with teams as needed on a regular basis.

About the Role

The COO will have a history of healthy partnerships and enthusiasm for optimizing organizational performance. As a member of the executive leadership team, you will have direct responsibility for optimizing the delivery of almost $1B in annual transfers to the state of Oregon that fund critical programs and repay bonds.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

* Graduate Degree and nine (9) years of experience in strategic planning, operations management, or strategic financial planning and reporting. Five (5) years of experience must include senior management experience*;

OR

* Fourteen (14) years of experience in strategic planning, operations management, or strategic financial planning and reporting. Five (5) years of experience must include senior management experience*.

* Senior management experience may include but is not limited to: experience at the VP or chief level; and/or senior director, head or GM at a Fortune 500 company, with experience leading senior leadership teams that lead leaders, not just individual contributors.

Requested Attributes:

* Success at leading the vision, strategy and roadmap for an organization through the operations department managing product and retailer and customer relationships to generate revenue.

* Experience developing and managing a senior leadership team and an organization of 150+ multi-generational employees.

* Experience leading a distributed organization of remote, hybrid and in-office workers, demonstrating ability to engage and lead all employees where they are at, using a continuous improvement and DEIB supportive mindset.

* Success at sponsoring cross-functional, complex, enterprise-level programs tied to strategy, leading to on time, on budget and highly engaged/satisfied employee, partner and customer outcomes measured as KPIs and OKRs.

* Preference for operations leadership experience in the gaming industry and/or other private industry experience(s). Senior management experience as described above, in an organization of comparable size (450 employees, $17B in revenue).

* Collaborative, transparent style with strong communication skills and ability to understand what motivates team members, and how to lead them to do their best work in partnership with teammates. Teammates hold each other accountable to goals and objectives, and make tough decisions as needed.

* Data- and insights-driven mindset, using critical thinking skills to manage risk, problem solve and lead the work through the power of effective teams.

* Adept at anticipating change, knowing when to pivot, and how to engage employees effectively with understanding the why so they will follow. Transformational leadership experience and demonstrated ability to effectively influence and engage others to impact broad, system-level change.

* Is a present leader who takes the time to get to know direct reports well through regular 1:1s and team meetings and takes steps to meaningfully advance their development and career.

* Detail and quality oriented, highly organized, self-sufficient, and follows through with deadlines and commitments.
