Location Mapping

Audience: Program Team, Club Members, Survey Team
Description: Local Geotourism programs create map guides to celebrate and appreciate the unique features of the community. This document provides an overview for how the Survey Team creates and maintains the map of Locations. In this page we will discuss the basic usage of the Survey application to to create and update Locations.

When planning your Geotourism program, you will want to include Locationa:

[quote][dropcap]L[/dropcap]ocations: the places in your local community that make your area unique. Locations may be items of art, culture, nature or heritage.[/quote]

In the Survey Applications, “Locations” are non-commercial locations that don’t have “management” or “organizations” on site.  In this context, Locations are places where you want to point something out to visitors or locals, something that they should see or experience. There are over 100 categories for locations including:

In this video you can see, step by step, how to add a location.

  1. Choose network
  2. Choose Survey Type (Local Business (Organization), Location, or Household
  3. Region – If you have been assigned a Region, this will be a very large area.  Once selected you will need to zoom in to find the specific area of the Location you want to add
  4. Satellite – Switch to satellite view to identify the exact spot where you will place your Location
  5. Mobile – Long tap on your screen. Desktop – Left Click – Place the new location on the map.  Click on the new location to edit, or repeat to move the location.
  6. Fill in “The Basics”
    1. Name – Use Capital Letters to write the complete name of the location
    2. Category and Subcategory – Look through the categories to find the best match for the new location.
  7. Submit your location by choosing Add or Add More
    1. Add and Edit – this will open the Profile of the location where you can edit additional details.
    2. Add More – this will submit the new location, and return you to the map so you can proceed to create additional locations.
  8. Click for Edit Menu
    1. When you click on the location you can see some details of the location, as well as quick links so you can edit additional details of the Location.
